The Outlaw Suspension Trainer
The Outlaw Suspension Trainer
As a personal trainer, I like useful exercise equipment that is both versatile and scalable (can make exercises easier or harder). A suspension trainer is an ideal example.
I own a TRX and paid top dollar for it. Build quality is excellent, exercise versatility is huge and it’s totally scalable. It was the original suspension trainer and it has changed the game both in terms of personal training and exercise, but given I deliver around 40 personal training sessions per week, it has taken a battering over the last couple of years.
I’ve recently started using ‘The Outlaw’ suspension trainer from Loxley Sports. It’s around 1/3 of the price of a TRX and the build quality is easily as good. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now and can’t fault it – from the quality of the adjusting mechanism (something that often fails on cheap versions) to the comfort of the handles, it’s a great bit of kit.
It’s versatility goes beyond the amount of exercises you can do – it extends to where you can use it too. The Outlaw comes with both the door anchor and the extender strap, meaning it can be used in a standard door frame or outside on football goalposts for example. Here is mine, hung on the door of my office…
If you are new to suspension training, there is a handy guide to the use of it enclosed when you buy the Loxley suspension trainer. Coupled with the (literally) thousands of videos on sites such as YouTube, with the outlaw suspension trainer you can have a brilliant workout using a single bit of kit.
The Outlaw suspension trainer is easily portable as it can be stored in the mesh bag it comes with…
…meaning that you can take it anywhere. Throw it in your gym back for more options at the gym, chuck it in your work bag for a quick lunch break workout or even take it to a local park as I have done in the past….
In fact, last year I put my suspension trainer in my bag, went for a bike ride and did a circuit workout using the suspension trainer whilst I was out. It was a circuit and cardio workout in one!
By the way, if you need convincing suspension trainers are the way forward, this is quote from Alwyn Cosgrove’s blog in 2013. He was talking about the TRX, but the technology is the same…
If you do fancy a change from the gym or you are looking for a way to mix up your workout, you can do a lot worse than pick up the outlaw suspension trainer. It’s £44.95, which is far cheaper than a TRX and easily as good.
