Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey Review
Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey – Strawberry Flavour
I was recently sent this Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey to review – it’s part of a growing product lineup from the guys at Optimum Nutrition.
I haven’t used much whey over the last few years – I remember the bad old days of cheap protein that mixed really badly. No matter how much shaking, you’d end up with water/milk and balls of dry, artificial-tasting powder. Thankfully, things have moved on!
Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey Review
For the review, I opted for the Strawberry flavour Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey and I was impressed. It mixed really well in my King Metal Protein Shaker, providing a easy-to-drink, smooth and subtly flavoured shake. There were no unmixed, dry powder bombs at all and the taste is great – strawberry, without the artificial taste that so many cheaper protein powders have.
The battle with any protein powder is getting the taste right. Fundamentally these are health products, so they can’t contain the fat and sugars that make things taste good. Additionally, the Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey is mixed with water, meaning it can’t rely on milk to help on the taste front. Luckily, this doesn’t matter because the protein tastes good and you aren’t smacked round the head with artificial sweetener taste, which you are with many other brands!
