Partner HIIT Circuit Workout

This HIIT Circuit Workout is NOT for Wimps!

Andy and I did this HIIT circuit workout recently and it was grim – really, really tough!

As I mentioned in another article, CrossFit has been influencing my training again and this kind of HIIT circuit workout is similar to the CrossFit style many of us know. It’s a partner workout, but could quite easily be done on your own.

The HIIT Circuit Workout

This is me on the second circuit of hang cleans – feeling pretty cooked by this point!

HIIT circuit

Perform 30 reps of each exercise, broken down into three sets of 10.

Perform 10 reps, then your partner does 10. Repeat until you have both done all 30 reps, before moving on to the next exercise in the workout.

At the end of the HIIT circuit, rest for 2 minutes and repeat from the beginning.

The exercises…

  • Jumping Chins
  • Tricep Push Ups
  • Jump Squats
  • Single Arm Dumbbell Rows
  • Plyometric Lunges
  • Hang Cleans
  • Burpees

If you complete 2 whole circuits of this you’ll have done 420 reps, which is enough exercise for a day!

As I was doing the push ups on the second round, the puddle of sweat collecting on the gym floor below me was a stark reminder of exactly how tough this workout is. The fact that Andy and I barely said a word for 2 minutes after doing the second round gives you an indication of what to expect.

Of course, you could take it easy, but that’s not the point. This is one of those kick-your-own-arse kind of workouts, the type where not only would you only want it to last 30-45 minutes, thats all is it could last. Normal people just don’t have enough in the tank to keep doing this forever!

HIIT circuit workouts are a fantastic fat burner. They burn hundreds of calories in a very short period of time and when done often enough change the rate at which your body burns fat. Regular HIIT circuits will make your fat burning more efficient, not to mention make you much, much fitter in the process.

If you thought ‘cardio’ meant running for hours, check out your heart rate whilst doing this and see how you hard you are working…
