5 Simple Health Checks That Can be Done at Home

We live in a world where everyone is constantly on the go and has a million things to do all at once. If you’re one of them, then there’s a good chance that you’ve been meaning to go to the doctor for your regular check-up for a while, but you just can’t find the time to do so.

Don’t worry – you don’t have to book in and make it all the way to the doctor’s office to keep on top of your health. Let’s take a look at five simple health checks that can be done in the comfort of your home.

1.     Heart Rate

You may not know that your heart rate is a good indicator of many different bodily functions, as well as your health in general. A healthy resting heart rate is typically between 60 and 100 beats per minute.

If you’re particularly fit, then you’ll have a slower resting heart rate. All you need to do to check your heart rate is place your finger on the inside of a wrist, and count your pulse to ten seconds. Times this by six, and you’ll have your heart rate per minute.

2.     At-Home STD Test

Keeping on top of your sexual health is essential to overall well being, and if you are single and making the most of it, you may want to check in regularly with what’s going on down there.

Luckily, you don’t have to make a doctor’s appointment to do so. An at-home STD kit is a great, discreet way to test yourself for possible STDs. The best part is, you can send your test away the same day and get results back pretty quickly.

3.     Oral Health

When was the last time you flossed? It’s the end of a long, busy day, and you can barely muster the energy to brush your teeth – let alone floss them. Oral health is something that we don’t think about that much, but it’s more important than you may think.

Checking for anything that’s out of place, or slightly tender is vital to making sure that your oral health is where it should be. Issues with your teeth and gums can come on gradually, but if you don’t catch them early, you could end up with a big dental bill.

4.     Moles

Most of us have moles, and whether we have a little or a lot, they can occasionally be an indicator of something more serious, like skin cancer. Checking the color, shape, and size of your moles regularly is essential. Just like your oral health, the earlier you catch an abnormal mole, the better.

This way, you can decide for sure whether you need to talk to your doctor or not, without wasting an appointment.

5.     Iron Deficiency

A lack of iron can result in many different physical symptoms, from light-headedness to shortness of breath and even heart palpitations and weakness. Luckily, there are some simple ways that you can check for iron deficiency at home.

Check the redness of your gums, as well as the inside of your eyelids. If they aren’t a normal, healthy red color, then you could be low in iron, which would require a blood test.

It’s not easy staying on top of our health when we’re caught up with everyday life. If you don’t have time to go and see your doctor right now, use these practical tips to give yourself an easy, at-home health check.
