5 Reasons Your Diastasis Recti Is NOT Healing

While most people recover from diastasis recti pretty easily, some bodies may take longer than expected. 

Mostly, women experience changes in their abdomen during pregnancies. This usually leads to an abdominal gap to many of them if not all.

The pressure inserted to your abdominal muscles during delivery can as well as cause diastasis recti.

However, abdominal separation should not freak you out because it will just heal well. It can heal easily especially when you follow the right fitness routine. 

But what if it doesn’t heal and you think you’ve done everything correctly? 

Well, there are several reasons why diastasis recti may fail to heal. Check them out;

  1. Your Body Isn’t Well Hydrated

Water is a primary element in delivering nutrients and oxygen to body tissues. Specialists reveal that dehydration leads to more pressure in the body.

Optimum healing requires your body tissues to be well supplied with nutrients and oxygen. When you drink less water, tissues will only receive little nutrients and oxygen. Thus, healing will be delayed. 

If you have not been drinking enough water, this could be the reason why your diastasis recti is not healing.

 Thus, you should consider it a priority to drink much water every day to hasten the healing process.

Doctors indicate that drinking at least 2.7 liters of water daily can multiply the chances for faster healing.

  1. Your Stomach Bloats Frequently

It is important to note that discomfort in your stomach will affect the way your abdominal muscles function. 

If you are having difficulties with digestion, you are likely to experience problems with your bowels. This may include constipation, improper absorption, bloating, and so on.

Bowel difficulties affect your abdominal muscles as they increase pressure in your belly. Moreover, your healing tissues will not get the required necessities especially if you’re having problems with nutrients absorption.

 But several studies have shown that stress, depression, or anxiety can actually lead to a delay in the supply of oxygen to your body tissues. This is because your breathing muscles are tightened and pressured.

  1. Your Diastasis Was Weakened and Enlarged During Pregnancy

If you have a small abdominal frame and your baby is big, the gap between your abdominal muscles may widen more than normal. It can also weaken the connective tissues in your belly. 

In this situation, diastasis recti may take longer to heal and you might need some extra care. 

This however does not mean you need surgery. There are many alternatives to diastasis recti surgery that can help you heal with ease including corrective exercises and proper nutrition. 

You should find a skilled fitness trainer especially those who specialize in postnatal exercises. You could also use the help of a pelvic floor physiotherapist. 

  1. You Are Doing the Wrong Exercises

Perhaps your body isn’t liking the exercise you’ve been doing in an attempt to heal DR. 

Remember that not every exercise will work out for you just because it was effective with someone else.
