4 Easy Tricks to Stay Fit and Healthy Being a Busy College Student

If you’re a college student, there’s a chance that you’re interested in staying fit and paying more attention to your health. Unfortunately, for many of us, being in college means that you don’t have enough free time to exercise 5 times a week and cook dinner from scratch every night. However, I discovered that having to write my essay and wanting to stay fit in college does not necessarily have to result in a struggle. If you’re interested in discovering how to stay fit in college while also being busy, keep on reading.

1. Multitask

It’s not that easy to be a college student since you probably need to balance your studies, social life and stay fit at the same time. An easy way to save up some time is by doing two things at once. If you are so overwhelmed with studies that you start thinking “I don’t have time to write my essay, how can I find a minute to exercise?”, you can try to kill two birds with one stone. Although it would be totally crazy to suggest writing an essay while doing weight training, light cardio exercise for college students and class reading can actually do you great service. Try going over class notes while on the treadmill or watching a video lecture about Australia while on the elliptical. The research also suggests that exercising right after studying helps you remember information better, so why wouldn’t you try it?

2. Prep Your Meals

Your time in college is the first step to becoming an independent adult, which means that you have to start worrying about preparing food on your own. Although it might be your first instinct to go for a cup of instant noodles, meal prep is a far better option. Instead of ordering delivery or getting takeout, you can make enough food on Sunday to last for the weekdays. Make sure that you include starch (like pasta or potatoes), protein (lean meat, fish, or beans), and some veggies. The options are pretty much unlimited, and you can make a salad on the side if you have extra 5 to 10 minutes.  

3. Drink Water

Although this point is mentioned pretty much everywhere, we still often tend to forget about it. While iced coffee, energy drinks, and soda are tasty and might give you some caffeine, you definitely should not forget to drink water. Whenever I feel too exhausted to write an essay for me, I go for some iced water, and it helps! There are many formulas online to calculate how much clean water you should drink in a day, but you don’t have to drink it all right away. Have a glass of water in the morning, and carry a water bottle around to drink when you feel thirsty. Try adding lemon juice, mint, or cucumber slices for some flavour.

4. Keep Healthy Snacks Around

To make sure you have enough energy to get through the day, three meals may not be enough, so you want to go for a little snack. Naturally, we all will reach for something that is easily accessible and lying around the house. By removing unhealthy snack options, you make sure that you won’t eat too many potato chips. Instead, stock up on protein bars, nuts and seeds, and fruits. While still nutritious and tasty, they give me enough energy to power through the day to write my essay for me and not feel drained by the time I have dinner.

Doing your best in college takes up a lot of time and energy, which means you might want to choose instant noodles over a salad or an energy drink over a glass of water. However, staying fit and healthy is not about sacrificing all of your time exercising and eating healthy foods. Hopefully, this article could inspire you to make little changes in your daily routine to improve your physical wellbeing.
