How To Use Visualization For Weight Loss

How To Use Visualization For Weight Loss

If you have tried every diet and fitness regime in the book with no results, it might be time to try something new. Visualization is a technique that can be used to assist in your weight loss journey. Even though it might sound a bit optimistic or too good to be true, there are quite a few studies to back this up. It is said that if you get into a relaxed state and then imagine your ideal body, you will set yourself up for success from the very beginning. Weight loss will, therefore, become more effortless and it will be much more likely that you’ll stick to your plan. You won’t only stick to your plan, but you will be working with your body instead of against it for a much more effortless weight loss journey.

How Does Visualization Work?

Visualization is a really handy tool when it comes to weight-loss. Remember that the mind can’t distinguish between what is imagined and what is real. Therefore, if you visualize something (like your ideal body), your mind encodes a picture of yourself as if it is a reality. This will make it easier for your body to do what is necessary to reach your goal.

You can start out by going into a state of deep relaxation. Research has shown that when you enter a state of deep relaxation, your mind becomes primed for suggestion. Before you fall asleep at night and when you lie in the bed in the morning, start to relax your body and calm your mind. Then imagine your ideal body. Focus on each part of your body and how good you’ll feel when looking that way. Also, see yourself making healthy choices as the new you. Make sure to notice the sensations and feeling associated with the images as this will strengthen the effect. This only has to take 4-6 minutes per day.

Even though imagining your ideal body seems like a crazy, impossible goal to set for yourself, it is important to get a clear vision of where you are headed. Some people who have tried this method have claimed that they became the exact image of what they have visualized for themselves.

What Can I Expect?

You can expect a subtle shift inside of you. You’ll possibly be less hungry, start craving healthier, nutritious foods and automatically want to be more active. This will all happen very easily, without having to force yourself. And you can expect to keep the weight off, without much effort. The visualization exercises will help your body and mind to work together.

What Else Does Visualization Help For?

  • It can help to reduce stress. It’s common knowledge that stress can cause weight gain. When we feel stressed, our bodies release hormones that slow down metabolism and make us hungrier. Any mind-body practices, such as visualization reduces stress and it can, therefore, help you to stay calm. The stress hormones that cause fat storage will start to dissipate.
  • It can help with emotional issues. Weight is often used as a barrier when people feel threatened. Visualization can be used to create a barrier to help you feel safer. You can imagine a barrier around you that others could only enter with your permission. In this way, you could convince yourself that you are safe and don’t require all the excess weight to protect you from the world.
  • It can help to eliminate cravings for junk food. If you visualize something you crave as something really disgusting, it could actually repulse you and control your cravings for good.
