1000 Calorie Diet Book Is Here!

I did it. I finally did it. I wrote the 1000 Calorie Diet Book!

For those of you who don’t know, the most popular article on this site is my article on ‘What Happened When I Followed a 1000 Calorie Diet’. In the post I wrote an account of what happened when I questioned perceived nutritional wisdom and spent 5 days eating only 1000 calories per day. I wrote about the approach I took, the decisions I made, why I made them and what happened.

1000 Calorie Diet Book

Since I published the 1000 calorie diet post, it has been viewed over 400,000 times. There are 200 comments on the post and a LOT of success stories. It has inspired people to do the same, in lots of cases dropping over 50lbs in weight.

When I asked people who had followed the 1000 calorie diet to tell me how much weight they’d lost following it, the average weight loss 19.7lb. That’s a lot of weight as the average.

More importantly, they’ve kept it off. Most diets fail – this one helps to re-circuit what is an appropriate portion and finally gets people to understand that CALORIES ARE IMPORTANT when it comes to weight loss!

Why Write the 1000 Calorie Diet Book?

My blog (and my profession) exist to help people. In writing the book, I’m able to do that in greater numbers. I can get the message about the approach out far and wide. I can go into far more detail in the book than I can in a blog post. I can teach people the nuances, the approaches that are successful and how to implement them.

It just took a while to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard in this case).

I have a personal training client who is in eCommerce and when I told him how many views my blog post gets, he basically flipped out that I hadn’t written the definitive 1000 Calorie Diet Book. I’d thought about it a lot – it wasn’t that I didn’t want to write it, I just didn’t have the time. Between personal training, copywriting and being an attentive parent and partner, time isn’t a luxury I have.

I’d want to put some effort into it, do it justice and make it more than just a long blog post, which is what a lot of eBooks are.

Then Coronavirus came along. Once the lockdown happened and I had to change my working practices, I made it a goal to finally write my 1000 Calorie Diet Book. I covered everything I wanted to, going into more detail on aspects I just glossed over in the blog post.

The beauty of a book is that you can cover aspects of a subject that are just too much detail for a blog post. I also had some detailed rationale as to why I made certain choices on the 1000 calorie diet, so I put those into the book.

My typical blog posts come in at well over 2000 words, so I’m not shy on detail in my writing, but even I have a limit on what I think a reader will accept in a blog post. Having written the book, I edited it down from 20,000 words to a much trimmer (pardon the pun) 10,000 words. Then there’s the images.

The 1000 Calorie Book is broken down into 16 sections across 43 pages. It’s certainly far more than a long blog post!

My book writing style is no-fluff. I only included the relevant bits in there because it’s a how-to book, not a story. I want you to be able to pick up the book and within a few minutes understand what to do and how to do it. It’ll serve as a reference point, a guide and a how-to book on all things 1000 calorie diet.

You won’t have to dig through hundreds of pages and self-indulgent chapters. It’s purely about how you follow the diet successfully and how to deal with some of the issues you’re likely to come across when following it.

The 1000 Calorie Diet Book Section List is as follows…

  1. The 1000 Calorie Diet – a Background
  2. The 1000 Calorie Diet Experiment: History
  3. The 1000 Calorie Diet: Simplicity
  4. Breaking Down Your 1000 Calorie Day
  5. Meal Ideas for a 1000 Calorie Diet
  6. A Sample Day on a 1000 Calorie Diet
  7. Supplements on the 1000 Calorie Diet
  8. Diet Hacks: Keeping Calories Low on a Diet
  9. Getting Enough Protein on a 1000 Calorie Diet
  10. Diet Psychology on a 1000 Calorie Diet
  11. Dealing with Hunger on the 1000 Calorie Diet
  12. Treat Day on a 1000 Calorie Diet
  13. The 1000 Calorie Diet and Exercise
  14. I’ve Reached My Target Weight. Now What?
  15. Next Level Fat Loss – HARD Strategies for RAPID Weight Loss
  16. Next Steps…

Essentially I complied all of the questions I’d been asked about the diet, its application and what to expect. I added a lot of additional detail around supplementation, protein, decisions, dealing with hunger, how to exercise etc and put together a comprehensive resource. The idea is that all of the questions I’ve ever been asked about it are in the book and if you want to know anything else, you can just ask!

How to buy the book…

  1. I just stumbled across your site while Googling how not to be hungry on 1000 calories/day. I’ve been seeing a weight loss MD for a few years. I initially lost 50lbs, but following a stressful divorce, regained 40. I’ve lost 12 of that over the last 6 months but am now at a standstill. I’ve taken app. suppressants & have been following a 1200 calorie diet, but the weight doesn’t really feel like budging from my 41 yr old body. In the last month, I’ve upped my 3x/week work-outs to 5x/week (45-60 mins per). My only vice is my nightly wine which I’ve been unwilling to sacrifice. I’ve switched from white to red & cut back. I’m tracking my food and with working out, still have a deficit. Given all that I’m doing, I can’t see how 1-2 glasses of wine is really the thing holding me back, but I know it’s not helping. Anyway, looking forward to reading your e-books and learning some new information. Glad I came across your site!

  2. Hi Melissa!

Sorry to hear about your divorce and your weight troubles. Have you considered giving your body a break from everything? Maybe cut the medication out, eat a bit more but fill yourself with healthy, nutritious food and then try the low calorie approach? Sounds like your body could do with a break, but obviously you know yourself!

Happy to help if you have any questions.

    Steve

  4. Hey Steve!

I’ve been on a 1,000 calorie diet for the past couple of weeks and I’m enjoying it! I read through the comments on your original post, and decided I’d love to read your book, but don’t see anywhere to buy it? Am I crazy? It looks like the only book published is your HIIT workout book.

    Thanks!
    Jared
