Athletic Greens – My Favourite All-Round Supplement

Why I take Athletic Greens

On a daily basis, I’m asked to review supplements. I turn down 99% of them because I think most of them are a waste of money and are completely unnecessary.

There are however, some supplements I believe in and when the opportunity arises I’ll do a review. If I’m going to suggest a supplement to clients and readers, I want to have tried it myself to base my recommendation in facts, not guesswork. One of the supplements I believe in is a good quality greens drink.

As an overall supplement, the best one I have ever found is Athletic Greens. It’s considered the worlds’ best greens drink and having tried at least 10 others, I’d agree completely.

Given it’s wellness month on Hoylesfitness.com, I’m going to tell you about Athletic Greens because as an all-round supplement, health-booster, immune-booster and sickness prevention product, I haven’t found better.

What is Athletic Greens?

Athletic Greens is a powdered supplement that is mixed with water into a ‘Greens Drink’. Once mixed, you drink it in one hit in the morning, ideally on an empty stomach. It’s a fantastic all in one supplement that has all of the nutritional supplementation you are likely to need.

It’s used by professional athletes, sports teams, fitness professionals and everyday people all over the world. Tim Ferriss, the best-selling author of The 4-Hour Work Week, The 4-Hour Chef and The 4-Hour Body recommends this supplement to all of his readers and raved about it in his 4 hour body book and on his blog. It’s important to note, Tim endorsed it without payment. Athletic Greens do not pay anyone to endorse the product – I haven’t been paid for this post.

So why is Athletic Greens so good?

I see Athletic Greens as a 5 in 1 supplement….

  1. It’s a superfood complex. Far too many people still don’t eat enough fruit and vegetables, despite the advice. A daily glass of Athletic Greens makes sure you don’t go without your vitamins and minerals. It’s a high-alkaline, nutrient-dense superfood complex. In English, it’s full of good stuff.
  2. It’s an antioxidant supplement. Antioxidants prevent cell damage. We usually supply antioxidants through our food, but when we don’t eat enough fruit and vegetables or if we eat sub-standard fruit and vegetables (i.e. out of season, poor quality), we don’t get enough antioxidants. This speeds ageing, reduces injury recovery time, leads to illness etc. A serving of Athletic Greens supplies us with a whole days’ worth of antioxidants in one hit.
  3. It’s a digestive enzyme complex. Digestive enzymes allow us to break down our food in the gut, which in turn allows the nutrients in our food to be absorbed by our bodies. Those of us who suffer from high stress, pancreatic problems, food intolerances and digestive issues often have low digestive enzyme levels. What this means is that although you might be eating good food, you may not be getting the benefit from the food as it isn’t being broken down and absorbed properly in the gut.
  4. It’s a probiotic supplement. Probiotics are live bacteria that are good for your digestive system. Probiotics are often called “good” or “helpful” bacteria because they help keep your gut healthy. Probiotics often help diarrhoea, IBS and other gut complaints. You may have seen probiotic yogurts – it’s like those, but a mega dose.
  5. It’s a multivitamin and mineral supplement. A serving of Athletic Greens is a large boost for your vitamin and mineral levels as well as all of the other benefits noted above. A serving in the morning alongside a good diet will see you hit your daily vitamin and mineral goals with ease.

I take my Athletic Greens in the morning. I mix it with cool water in half pint glass and down the whole lot before I eat anything else. It tastes good, especially compared to others. I’d be lying if I said it was like drinking nectar, but it’s certainly not unpleasant – I wouldn’t take it if it was! I was once given a greens drink called Udo’s Choice to review. It was so foul I didn’t even put the review up on the site.

I also take a couple of capsules of fish oil in the morning. I only take fish oils because I don’t eat any fish or seafood (because of an allergy, not because it’s bad for you) but still want to benefit from fish!

If I have trained particularly hard, have been up late at night or have been around people with colds, I’ll have a second Athletic Greens later on in the day as a second boost.

Athletic Greens Cost

At full retail, a tub of Athletic Greens costs around £62. As a Hoyles Fitness reader though, if you buy through the link below, there is 50% off your first order, making it £34.95 for 1 tub or £65 for 2 tubs.

Quick heads up – you have to ‘qualify’ for this discount. Ignore this to a point – you qualify by joining up. Don’t be alarmed by this – you CAN cancel AT ANY TIME!

Some people may think it is expensive, and I get why. However, I’d counter that in a few ways…

  1. It’s 5 supplements in 1. If you added up the cost of all of the other supplements it would come to more than the price of Athletic Greens, quite easily. It contains 76 ingredients and you’ll pretty much never need to take another supplement again!
  2. You can stretch it out! If you wanted to, you could stretch it further by taking it every other day. Use it as a boost if the rest of your diet is pretty solid. This would keep the cost down.
  3. Per-day price is low! Broken down over the days, it’s actually cheaper than your daily coffee or a sandwich, plus a whole lot better for you. It’s only £2 per day at full retail price. Half of that if you use the link.
  4. It’s squeaky clean! Athletic Greens is made from organic foods, is non-dairy, non-soy, non-GMO, gluten-free, corn-free, egg-free, peanut-free, herbicide-free, pesticide-free artificial chemical, preservative, flavour, colour and sweetener free and contains no animal by-products. If you have an allergy to anything, it probably won’t be Athletic Greens!
  5. It’s convenient! Athletic Greens makes life easy, which is always worth a couple of quid. They deliver it to your door, you can buy it on subscription and it saves having to make a smoothie, a juice or take 5 different supplements. Water in a glass, add power, stir and drink. Supplements, done.

Athletic Greens can be bought by the tub, but the more cost-effective way is to buy on a subscription. Once you sign up, you are billed on a monthly basis and the product is delivered to your door every month. This prevents you from ever running out, saves you money and means you don’t have to remember to re-order. They do that for you!

Regular readers know I don’t dish out recommendations often, so when I do it’s a product I really believe in. With Athletic Greens, you are buying a top quality product that is well made, well tested and excellent quality.
