What are the best ways to stay fit and healthy in an apartment building?

Stuck inside your small apartment or flat with your regular workout routine interrupted due to the ongoing pandemic, and wondering how to stay fit and healthy? Perhaps you’re just living in the city for the first time, and looking for some general pointers on how to stay active in an urban environment? Whatever the case may be, we’ve compiled a short guide with some pointers on how to keep on top of physical activity in an apartment building.

Work(out) from home

Much like many of us have been building and working from our own makeshift ‘home offices’ during this uncertain lockdown period, a large number of people have also been building their own personal gyms, with equipment and training space allocated within a specific area or room of their home. If you can manage to get hold of some dumbbells or gear to train with in your home then carve out a space and create your own workout plan, even if it’s just something to get the blood pumping each day.

If you can’t afford gym equipment or perhaps don’t have as much space, why not try following one of the freely available workout videos and livestreams offered by the likes of Joe Wicks online? Lockdown and self-isolation have been tough for a lot of people at the moment, and so the support is out there if you need it to get back on track with your fitness!

Use the facilities available to you

Many modern apartment buildings have quality facilities available to those living within their complex, and so this is something that you should certainly leverage if you have the opportunity to do so. Not only are apartment facilities often free-to-use if you live in the building and pay rent there, but having them local affords you the luxury of being able to exercise when you want and on your own terms, melding to your schedule.

Interested to learn what sorts of luxury amenities and facilities modern apartment buildings have nowadays, and looking forward to the future? Take a look at some of the properties offered by RWinvest, across UK cities such as Liverpool and Manchester. Examples in these in-development buildings include rooftop swimming pools, private gym areas, and even spas.

Take the stairs

If you live in an apartment building with multiple floors, then perhaps challenge yourself to take the stairs at all times, rather than opting for the easier ‘lift’ option. Your legs might not thank you for it at first, but it’s a great way of burning some extra calories without even thinking about it.

Making the most of the lockdown period and pushing himself to the extreme, one Youtuber took on the task of climbing the height of Everest in metres via his 20-storey apartment building’s staircase. Suffice to say it took him around four days to complete, and a lot of sweat and resilience!

The mental workout

Staying mentally active and healthy is just as important as keeping on top of your physical exercise, and so you should also make sure that after going for that jog, or lifting those weights, you take some time to look inwards, too. Keeping your brain on its proverbial toes will help you to stay more focused and happier generally, and there are a bunch of different things you can try to get started with this. From simply listening to an audiobook when on the go, to trying meditation or calming apps to help you unwind or prepare for the day, your mobile phone can actually help with this in a lot of ways. Remember, you can also always pick it up for a chat with friends and family!
