Reasons why you Aren’t Seeing Results at the Gym

If you are shunning social occasions in favour of the gym, then you should be pretty proud of yourself. After all, maintaining motivation can be difficult, especially if you lead a busy life. If you find that you just aren’t seeing results however then this can be frustrating, but if you follow the below tips then there’s no reason why you can’t turn things around.

You Aren’t Following a Plan

Planning is key because it gives you the chance to make the most out of your time at the gym. Your Monday night workout will never be left to chance, and it can also help you with your motivation too. When creating your plan, make sure that you account for stretching and even your protein shake too. Little things like this will stop you from forgetting about those crucial little details and it will also help you to be more consistent. Of course, when you are devising your plan you need to make sure that you give yourself some leeway. If you try and schedule a workout every day of the week then you may end up exhausting yourself. This is the last thing that you need, as it will impede your confidence and your level of motivation. One way for you to get around this would be for you to schedule in 3 mandatory workouts, and then 2 optional workouts. That way, you have two days when you can opt-out. The other 2 days are then rest days, where you can recover from the week.

You’re Sticking with the Same Routine

It can be annoying when you start to lose weight, and then suddenly stop. If you are doing the same workout every single week then this could be the reason why. Your muscles need fresh stimulus in order to become more conditioned and effective, so look at every area of your routine, from your resistance to your speed and even weights. When you have done this, then try and step each one up a notch. Sure, this will be difficult at first, but if you keep at it then you’ll soon find that you can stimulate your muscle fibres in a different way, and this will really help you to see results.

Your Diet Sucks

Replenishing vital macronutrients after a workout will really help you out. Consider having a protein shake followed by a banana. You might also want to have a yoghurt with some fresh berries. Want more of a meal? Hummus and a pitta is always a great option. If you reward yourself by eating a muffin when you have been on the cross-trainer for an hour, then this won’t be doing you any favours. If you are desperate for a treat, then why not make a smoothie by using peanut butter and a banana? The sugar and fat will make it feel very indulgent, but as it contains the right stuff, it will help your muscles to recover.

You Need to Work Harder

Gauging the intensity of your workout can be tricky to say the least. This is especially the case when you are just starting out. If you want to help yourself here, then think about how much you are pushing yourself. Are you comfortable? If so then this is a sign that you need to be going harder. If you don’t then you may find that you end up plateauing. If you need some workout tips then there really are so many resources available for you to access on the internet.

You’re Not Moving Enough

If you are going to the same class twice a week then it may take way longer for you to start seeing results. This is especially the case if weight management is your goal. You have to remember that every little helps when it comes to exercise, so instead of just going to your class, try and walk to work, take the stairs instead of the elevator or even squeeze in some body exercises in the morning.

You’re Not Using your Upper Body Enough

Does your cardio session normally involve going on a stationary bike, treadmill or even stair stepper? If so then you may not be burning as many calories as you could be. If you use your upper body muscles as well then you may find that you end up burning way more calories and that you also boost your endurance. If you want to help yourself then you need to try and use machines that workout your upper body as well. If you do, then this will force you to increase your heart rate and it will also give you a much better workout and in the same amount of time.

You Don’t Have a Plan

Do you want to become more flexible? Run a 5K? Lose 10lbs? There are easily special workout plans that you can use to achieve each one of these goals but if you try and achieve all of the above at the same time then you may find that you end up stalling your results. You may also find that you create challenges that you can’t actually achieve. If you want to get around this then you need to try and focus on one objective at a time and you also need to try and create a plan that will help you to achieve it. If you do, then you can measure your goals much more easily and you may even find that you are able to become more confident in your workout as a result.
