7 Fitness Goals to Inspire Towards in 2020

Staying fit and healthy should be our top priority in life. If we are well then everything around us will go smoothly. Unfortunately, we get so caught up in the happenings of our daily lives that we often end up putting our fitness goals on the backburner.

The deal with being fit is that you have to make an active effort under any circumstances. You could be recovering from a back injury from a car accident, from an illness, or you might not be feeling at the top of our fitness game. Whatever your circumstances, make an oath to practice these habits in the coming year:

Eating Healthy Food

What you put inside your body plays the biggest role in determining your health status. The first thing you must do is determine what your goals are. For example, if you want to lose weight you might want to cut down on carbs and excessive fat. If you want to build muscle you would want to take in lots of protein. If you want to strengthen your immune system you will want to eat more fish and leafy greens.

In any circumstance though, try to opt for fresh, organic food rather than preservative-laden food. You can also check the ingredients at the back of the packages of the foods that you buy. See if any ingredients raise a red flag.

Another tip to keep in mind is that the fewer the number of ingredients you see on the list, the better that item might be for your health. We are unaware of the effects that many of the commonly found ingredients in packaged foods have and we could be putting our digestive systems under a lot of unnecessary stress this way.

Try to make your meals at home so you can alter the recipes in a way that is better for you. If you find it hard to think of meals and cook them up, you can start meal-prepping at the beginning of each week so you will have your meals laid out for the rest of the week.

Drinking Lots of Water

We cannot stress enough how important it is to drink ample water during the day. It is difficult to remember to drink water, especially in the winters. The result is less-than-optimal organs, putting your body under a lot of unnecessary stress, unhealthy looking skin, and digestive issues.

There is a specific quantity of water you must drink according to your body weight, overweight and obese people have to drink more water than skinnier people to have the same effects.

Keep in mind that your body cannot absorb more than 500 ml of water in a span of 15-30 minutes and the excess water is lost in your urine. So try to space your water drinking appropriately.

One tip to remember drinking water is to keep a cute water bottle with you all the time. If you see it, you will use it.

Being More Active

It is important to be physically active outside your work and gym time as well. For example, you can do a couple of quick chores around the house to keep them from piling up, you can take the staircase instead of the elevator to your room at work, and you can go to work on your bicycle instead of a car or the bus.

These bursts of activity prevent your body from going into an inactive state as soon as your time of activity is over. You end up walking a few extra steps and burning some extra calories which are great for your body.

Other than that, staying active also keeps you organized and prevents your work from piling up.

Taking up a Sport

If you are looking for a new hobby to help you stay fit, take up a sport. It does not have to be an extremely taxing sport like football or basketball; you can simply go golfing or take up table-tennis at your local sports center.

When you play sports, your mind is focused on the task at hand which keeps you mentally fit. It is excellent for your physical health too. And most sports put you in a competitive spirit that helps you stay above the game in real life as well.

Taking Self-Care Days

Remember to put yourself and your health above anything else that occupies you and make decisions that benefit your health.

Self-Care days are not just days off from work where you can roll into a blanket and watch Netflix. On a self-care day, you should work on bettering yourself in any way. Go have a spa day or a manicure. Take that hike with your friends that you have been planning forever. Go on a road trip. Do something different.

Meditation

The art of meditation by itself is not very common. Meditation is mostly seen in conjunction with Yoga. And while there is nothing wrong with meditating with Yoga, you do not need a physically active routine with your meditation to keep you healthy.

Set aside an hour or so every week where you just meditate. Close your eyes and try to clear your mind. If there is something that has been bothering you, try to confront it in your mind and think about effective solutions. Maybe the problem is not as scary as it seems to be in your mind.

Getting Better than Yourself

Remember that you are your best competition. Your goal each year should be to get better than you were the previous year. Competing with the people around you is also a good idea but you know your struggles much better than you know theirs.

Make small changes that combine to help fulfill a greater goal. For example, use 8 kg dumbbells instead of 6 kg ones while working out. Read more books this year than you did the previous year. Achieve small, simple goals. You will eventually realize how far you have come just by competing with yourself.
