5 Ways to Relieve Tension in Your Body

Several factors can cause tension and stress in one’s body. Many people experience it every day of their lives and it is important to know to let go of it. The causes of tension and stress include health issues, family, and work-related problems. However, tension can also be caused by using the wrong furniture.

People need to learn how to relieve their bodies of tension by adopting various solutions. These solutions will require setting aside time every day for a tension-relieving moment. Taking time to relax the mind and muscles will lead to a more peaceful and relaxed life.

Some of these stress relievers include:

1. Get a Massage

Getting a massage is among the most used techniques for relieving tension in the body. It comes in various forms; however, it involves rubbing, pressing, and working the ligaments, tendons, muscles, and skin. It can either be light or deep massages; however, it helps to lower blood pressure and enhance its circulation.

Massages are known to alleviate a lot of things, including nerve pain, sports injuries, insomnia, anxiety, neck, and back pain. Massage also relieves psychological tension making one feel more connected and aware of themself. A massage is now offered as a standard treatment for relieving body tension because of its numerous benefits.

2. Reduce Stressors

When one is stressed, all systems in the body get affected one way or another. Stress is known to tense up muscles which is a reflex reaction of the body. When tension is released, the body muscles automatically relax, but it can lead to stress-related disorders when unchecked. Some of the disorders can include respiratory and cardiovascular issues.

People are therefore encouraged to live a more relaxed lifestyle to reduce the stressors as well as seek help from psychologists. They can help them develop better breathing techniques to help them relax, among other strategies. Other stress-relieving activities like practicing yoga, meditating, or taking warm baths should also be considered.

3. Get Moving

According to WHO, sedentary lifestyles are a leading cause of many diseases and disabilities. Inactivity is a breeding ground for obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and high blood pressure. Getting regular exercise and eating well should be prioritized for a healthier and less tense body.

Regular movement is known to combat anxiety and tension in the body and improve one’s mood. It also promotes better sleep, increases energy in the body, and can be fun and social. The immune system responds better to threats internally and helps the nerves to function well. Exercising also helps the heart to pump better improving one’s blood flow.

4. Upgrade Your Furniture

People who sit behind their desks for long hours at a time can also experience sore fingers, wrists, back, or neck pain. However, body tension can be relieved with proper ergonomics like having a good chair that promotes correct posture. A good chair supports the spinal cord and the arms rest gently, making the shoulders feel more relaxed.

Tension in the body can also be brought about if one is not using the right mattress. To make things better, one can try a pressure relief mattress. It is designed to enhance comfort by supporting the head and body, relieving any tension on the main pressure points. You should change a mattress at least once every seven years for continued effectiveness.

5. Deep Breathing

Deep breathing is another effective way of reducing tension in the body as it slows the heart down, allowing the body to take in more oxygen. It helps reduce anxiety levels, makes people sleep better, and become more aware of themselves. Breathing is usually shallow or shorter, especially when one is scared, angry, or tensed.

Practicing deep breathing allows the mind to be calmer, allowing your body to feel calmer too. This helps to increase the energy levels in the body. Blood circulation is also improved, and immunity enhanced when people practice deep breathing. Setting aside a few minutes to practice deep breathing reduces tension, stress, and relaxes the mind.

Change Your Lifestyle

A good massage will go a long way in relieving tension in the body as the muscles will feel more relaxed. People who work for long hours at a time should also ensure that they have the right furniture, including getting a good pressure relief mattress. Regular movement and taking deep breaths are also equally important. Start to understand the stressors in your life to reduce tension and maintain a healthier lifestyle.
