How Long Does It Take To Get An Online Personal Trainer Certificate

The adaptability an online personal trainer certification gives and its ability to fit into the needs, plans, and activities of a student is a huge selling point.

Required information is accessed by students using an online platform. The platform also serves as a basis for lectures and assessments in the forms of continuous assessment tests, quizzes, and examinations.

Students are also availed of the opportunity to have live discussions and interactions. Skilled facilitators are available and can help them get a better understanding of the subject material they are learning.

Recently, there’s been a huge interest in acquiring an online personal trainer certificate. This is mainly due to the popularity and the huge revenues that are being generated in this nascent industry.

This has led to more standardization across the board. It then promotes and protects the certificates that are issued at the end of the day.

The certification authorities require certain standards to be met before such documentations are issued to deserving students. Here are some fitness ideas you can go through while preparing for your certificate.

Standard Requirements

There are certain requirements expected from a prospective student before the individual can enroll as a student in preparation for the online personal training course. Some of the fundamental requirements are listed below:

          i.            A Post-secondary certificate or a close alternative, which shows the individual can undergo the rigors of formal education as a qualifying examination, is usually required by most certifying examination bodies.

ii.            Due to the type of work and roles they may be involved in, students aiming to qualify as personal trainers are expected to present certifications in automated external defibrillator (AED) and complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

These are programs that train participants on how to identify when a client has a medical emergency, handle cardiac or breathing emergencies and respond quickly to be of assistance to a patient in an emergency until an expert in the field comes around.

The AED and CPR certifications are very important prerequisites going forward.

iii.            There are different areas of specializations a prospective student could pick from based on familiarity, ability, or fondness.

It is expected that the student chooses from the many options available such as fitness programming, group exercises, personalized training, etc.

iv.            The student can then proceed to prepare for the qualifying examination with a wide variety of online resources.

After the preparation, the individual is expected to sit for a qualifying examination with a certifying body of his choosing and to meet a minimum cut-off mark to proceed to partake in the online personal trainer certification course.

Please note carefully; the exams are usually multiple-choice questions ranging from 100 – 150 questions and are, in most cases, Computer-based; therefore, working knowledge on how to use a computer is mandatory.

Where can I obtain an Online Personal Trainer Certificate?

A recent survey listed the following as the best places to obtain the certificate. These were due to their proven experience in the industry, quality of graduates produced, and expertise of their training personnel.

In no particular order, they are American Council on Exercise (ACE), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

For a comprehensive breakdown of what each of these bodies provides, please view the table below:

The table above gives a guide on the frequently asked questions students usually have when they want to become personal trainers following the online route.

Some of the figures may vary depending on locations, dates, and availability. But these give a general view on how to go about becoming a certified personal trainer.

You need some workout guides for this pandemic period.

Conclusion

The key question is, how long will it take a student to complete the process using the online route to become a personal trainer?

From the preceding, it will generally depend on the pace of the student, availability of instructors, and other variables. These must be factored into arriving at a time frame in which to complete the program.

For example, a student with limited access to the internet may find it difficult to complete the program at the stipulated time when compared to another who has everything in sync.

The conclusion from the various certifying bodies mentioned above will be that it will take at least 12 weeks or three months to become a certified personal trainer using the online route.

By the way, you’ll need cardio workout routines now that you’re at home.
