For Goodness Shakes Protein Water Review

For Goodness Shakes Protein Water Review

For goodness shakes protein water? Protein? In water? Yup. Read on….

If you’ve been reading anything from the fitness and nutrition industry over the last few years, you’ll have noticed protein is the vogue macronutrient of the day. In the 80’s, we were obsessed with fat. In the 90’s/2000’s we were obsessed with carbs (thanks to Dr Atkins). Now, protein is being given the treatment.

Protein shakes aren’t a new thing by any stretch, but food producers are now tripping over themselves to shoehorn protein into their products. Recently we’ve seen protein bread, protein pancakes, protein beer…. now protein WATER?!

FGS

My job in part here is to educate and inform, so I happily took on the For Goodness Shakes protein water review.

I was given two flavours to try – Blackcurrant and Orange and Mango. They come in 500ml servings, each one containing only 86.6 calories and 20g of whey protein isolate. Additionally, the drinks contain no sugar or fat (the sweetness is added by sweetener).

The protein is derived from milk, so something to be aware of if you have a dairy intolerance.

Taste-wise, they aren’t particularly unpleasant but at the same time I wouldn’t rush to stock up on them. They try their best to taste like the flavours they claim to be, but given they are artificially flavoured they are never going to be bang on. Maybe it’s an age thing, but I’m disliking artificial flavours more and more!

Of the two, I preferred the Orange and Mango. The blackcurrant one had a sharp taste and left a funny texture in my mouth afterwards (yes, it was in date – I checked).

To conclude, although I wouldn’t rush out to buy the product, they certainly have their uses. They offer a quick protein hit if you need it and they are low calorie in comparison to many other ‘sports’ drinks. I personally wasn’t in love with the taste, but that’s not to say you wouldn’t be.

If you track your macros, it’s a transparent way to add 20g of protein in without having the hassle of mixing up a shaker. They are easy to transport, decent nutritionally and do they job they say they do.
