Cornerman’s Good Rub

Cornerman’s Good Rub – Self Defence for Skin

When you spend a lot of time lifting weights, you run the risk of the dreaded barbell blister. As it goes, I’m sporting a few right now…

I’ve grown pretty used to having permanent calluses on my hands, but the barbell blister is a bit of bitch when it comes. The one I picked up this week was from a heavy snatch workout. I worked out I did about 100 snatches in just over an hour.

No wonder my skin ripped.

Anyway, gym equipment isn’t the cleanest stuff in the world. Thousands of hands per week touch it, so it’s probably a bacterial heaven. As a personal trainer in Stockport, I probably wash my hands 10 times per day at least – before and after every session.

I’ve recently been using this stuff from Cornermans. It’s an antibacterial rub for your skin and acts as a barrier cream. In texture, it’s a bit like the hair mousse my Mum uses.

Good Rub is odourless and leaves a slight (not unpleasant) film on your hands, which is something to be aware of if you are using kettlebells or are performing Olympic lifts etc – you wouldn’t want them to slip from your grasp.

If you’re performing standard lifts such as bench press, shoulder press, squats etc then it won’t bother you at all.

The idea is that the Good Rub is self defence for skin, preventing bacterial infections that can creep in via skin abrasions. If you compete in a contact sport such as BJJ or MMA I’d give it a try – I know a friend of mine who has picked up a couple of cases of ringworm from BJJ practice.

Cornerman’s Good Rub is available from their website here. It costs £5.99 with a £2.95 P&P fee.

Also a quick not on a related subject, if you’re looking to remove moles from your skin, take a look at this H-moles formula.
