Hardcore HIIT Tyre Workout

HIIT Tyre Workout You Can Do Anywhere

You don’t need a gym or a lot of equipment to have a fantastic workout. In this article I’m going to show you a HIIT tyre workout I did. It’s a whole HIIT conditioning session using nothing but a big tyre and my bodyweight.

First of all, you need the right kind of tyre; a normal car tyre isn’t going to cut it. The smallest you will get away with is a rear tyre from a tractor. In this case, the tyre I used for this HIIT tyre workout was even bigger, weighing over 100kg.

The fact that it’s called TITAN tells you all you need to know about the tyre I used in this workout…

Getting hold of a large tyre is easy – call up a tyre merchant and ask them for one. In the UK (and probably elsewhere), they have to pay to dispose of such large tyres so are happy to give them away for free. In most cases they’ll even drop them off for you. In the last gym I managed, I had a company drop 25 large tyres off for free!

The HIIT tyre workout combines resistance training, HIIT work, bodyweight training and strength endurance training all in the same workout. With a heavy enough tyre it covers all of the energy systems and offers a huge exercise variety.

This HIIT tyre workout is well-balanced too, covering all of the major muscle groups in just a handful of exercises.

Thanks to the really high intensity in this HIIT tyre workout, you can be done and dusted in 20 minutes, meaning it’s a great workout to fit in when time is short. All you need is a large tyre, a little bit of space and yourself, then away you go!

I wore a heart rate monitor during this and saw my heart rate go over 180 beats per minute, so if you are serious about conditioning then you can do a lot worse than this HIIT tyre conditioning workout.

I like this workout from a functional point of view too. With a variety of movements in quick succession you never repeat a movement pattern too much, meaning your injury risk is low and the distribution of effort is wide. It’ll hit weak spots and make sure you leave no body part or energy system untrained!

I designed the workout to ensure there are mini-rests in between the bigger exercises (the flips and their variation). If you tried to do the big movements one after another you’d be gassed in a couple of minutes and unable to continue. The adding of the ‘easier’ exercises allows you just enough recovery before you move on to the next big exercise.

  • Tyre Flips (25yds)
  • Feet elevated push ups (12)
  • Tyre flips to plyometric jumps (25yds)
  • Rear foot elevated split squats (10 per leg)
  • Tyre mountain climbers (30 seconds)
  • Burpee into tyre flip (25yds)

Rest for 60-90 seconds at the end of a circuit. Repeat circuits for 20 minutes, or until you can’t do any more!
